Steamboat Chamber Singers
About Us As a select choral ensemble, the Steamboat Chamber Singers works to the highest standards of artistic expression, while providing an important creative outlet for singers from all areas of the Yampa Valley. The Steamboat Chamber Singers memorizes medium to difficult music – from choral works of previous centuries to more contemporary works – to perform two or three times each year at community concerts. We inspire community appreciation through masterful choral performances that are dedicated to artistic excellence. Steering Committee Lucy Middleton, Brian Harrington, Vincent Johns-Lee Director - Vincent Johns-Lee (970-879-0925) [email protected] Membership and Participation Information Participation in the Steamboat Chamber Singers is a privilege and a commitment. I understand that we need to work together to accomplish our shared artistic goals. As a member of the Steamboat Chamber Singers, I will value the artistic, musical, community, and aesthetic elements of the choir. Therefore, I agree to the following: Financial Support I pledge the following financial support to achieve the artistic and aesthetic goals of the choir: Membership dues: $150 per calendar year. Membership dues cover costs of compensation for Director and accompanist and for music purchases. Fees will be due on the date of the singer’s first rehearsal and on January 1st each year for continuing singers. If I am unable to make this payment, I will work with the Treasurer to set up a payment plan. I understand dues will not be returned if I withdraw from participation or am asked to leave the group for failing to follow the guidelines in this agreement. Tickets: I agree to pre-purchase at least six tickets for each concert. I understand that I may sell them (at face value) or give them to others at my own discretion. I understand tickets will not be issued to me without payment at time of issue. (See Treasurer for an exception.) Wardrobe: I agree to purchase the required wardrobe. The group will make best efforts to keep the expense to a minimum. Payment plans: To request a payment plans for dues or wardrobe, discuss and present a payment plan with a monthly due date to the Treasurer for review and approval. If 2 payments are missed, member agrees to work with the Treasurer to bring the account back to good standing. If member fails to work with the Treasurer, continued participation will be decided by the Executive Committee. Sponsorship: Receipts for additional charitable donations to this 501(c)(3) group are available on request from the Treasurer. Rehearsal and Performance Commitment I understand my commitment to the choir is expected for all performances in a calendar year, not for an individual concert. I will make a genuine effort to attend all rehearsals, and I understand dress rehearsal is mandatory. If I must miss a rehearsal, I will notify the Director in advance. I understand that if I miss more than three (3) rehearsals related to the same concert performance (no more than two for St. Patrick’s concert), I will be asked to withdraw until the next audition and enrollment period, at which time I will discuss my wish to return with the Director. I understand I may be asked to audition again and that my return is at the discretion of the Director and will be based on multiple factors, including the balance of the active choir. I will be on time for rehearsals. I will memorize all music assigned for memorization, in the order and within the timeline set by the Director. I will learn my music outside of rehearsal time. I understand rehearsal time is for the purpose of polishing and perfecting ensemble technique, not for pounding out notes on individual parts. Music and CD Copyright and Ownership I understand that the music, practice CDs, performance folders, and other materials I have been given are the property of the Steamboat Chamber Singers. I will take care of choir property during practices and performances and will return it in good condition after the final performance. Logistical support I will assist with rehearsal, meeting, concert, fundraiser, and other choir-related logistic needs as identified by the Steering Committee. Support may include, but is not limited to, ticket sales, set-up, break-down, equipment acquisition and transport, facility arrangements, food donation, marketing, and public relations. Open enrollment Each January, the Director will hold auditions for new singers, by appointment only. In addition, this is also the opportunity for former singers wishing to return to the group to speak with the Director about participating for the next year. A September start may be considered for new singers. The Director may also choose to hold auditions for new singers at other times, at their sole discretion. I have read, understand, and agree to the guidelines presented here. I understand that failing to follow any of these guidelines will result in a discussion with a member of the Executive Committee, and if not corrected, may result in being asked not to continue as a member of the group. Additionally, I understand that exceptions to these guidelines may be made in special circumstances, at the discretion of the Executive Committee, and that I may request consideration for an exception if I need one. I understand I will not be able to participate in the choir until this form and my dues have been received, and I will bring this signed form and dues payment to my first rehearsal.
